AUSTINIST INTERVIEWS: JOHN CALE October 26, '05

A founding member of The Velvet Underground, among the most visionary and influential bands of all time, John Cale is a master craftsman of "chords, tones and textures" whose work on The Velvet Underground and Nico documentarian Joe Harvard beautifully described as "assailing the boundaries confining rock's instrumentation, his arrangements and textural palate so accomplished that afterward all maps had to be thrown out and all borders redrawn." WESTERN GAZETTE April, '06

"Dozens of books have been written about the Velvet Underground, but Joe Harvard’s look at the band’s debut album is especially solid ... a detailed and illuminating song-by-song discussion ... Harvard is willing to look at each song objectively, which is refreshing."

"The Velvet Underground and Nico is both an entertaining and informative read and a worthy companion to the album. It works especially well as an introduction to the Velvet Underground for anyone who’s heard the praise but not the music."

Joe Harvard
Open Mic Host - Aug 2004

The Wonder Bar’s Wednesday night Open Mike is gradually becoming the scene to be in on Wednesday nights down in The ‘Bury; starting w/an eclectic mixture from this night’s musical host, Joe Harvard (guitarist from Dragster, Mark Prescott Band/Saint soundman). Joe whipped thru an obscure to bell-ringing medley of tunes by the Velvet Underground, Lou Reed, and himself in his own warm, personable style, which made one feel like they were sitting in Harvard’s living room, spinning some tunes and passing the dutchy. Joe will be playing the Saint at The Ween DVD party next Wednesday Aug. 25th.
