Local 22's
by Joe Harvard

The Local 22's, got their name because both bass player John Rosato's dad and my father were construction workers, and both were members of Local 22 of the Laborer's Union, AFL-CIO. On drums we had Paul Buhl- later with singer-songwriterMark Nelson in the band Machinery Hall.

That Local 22's became Flo and Jo when we hooked up with singer extraordinaire Florence Dore (formerly of the Chromatics, later with San Francisco's Mudsills) and guitarist Jon Macey, a veteran player who'd played with Fox Pass back in the days of Live at the Rat, and later found national recognition as half of the writing team behind Tom Dickie and the Desires (Jon has since formed and recorded with his own outfit Macey's Parade). At the time of this writing, May of '99, John Rosato and I are once again playing together- this time in the Grey Mods, along with drummer Matt Burns (and sometimes guest guitarist Dave Alcott, formerly of Treat Her Right sits in as well). The Mods were doing a weekly residency at the Middle East Bakery on Mondays, but since my April, 1999 move to New York City, we do one Saturday a month instead.
