Before the big national splash caused by an indie-altrnative chanteuse by the name of Juliana Hatfield, there was a big local splash caused by a quirky band called the Blake Babies. Fort Apache manager [later my partner, eventually owner] Gary Smith, with his faultless nose for bands with female centers [Throwing Muses, Pixies, Belly, Juliana Hatfield] and single-minded determination to forge working relationships with these groups once he'd sniffed 'em out, brought the Blakes into Fort Apache.jon
