| Three
veterans of the Beanscene join with one charismatic newcomer, and the combination
is a formula for success.
The
Blake Hazard Band is not one of the older groups to whom this site
is dedicated. It merits inclusion based on two factors, though: one, the
personnel includes three highly accomplished Boston music scene veterans;
and two, the band is excellent. I find myself paying more attention to
newer bands these days, and the nice thing about having your own site
is you can define the focus as you go along. So while paying tribute to
the "old school" is still the primary focus of the Boston Rock Storybook,
I'm not so dogmatic that I'm going to act as though there are good, important
groups making music in the here and now. These bands are part of the continuing
history of Boston rock, so instead of waiting to present a retrospective
of them, I may as well get a jump on it now. That said, the Blake Hazard
Band is a group that I think is going places, and, should she decide to
stick with it, I believe Blake herself will be a singer/songwriter to
be reckoned with in the years to come. The photos on this page were taken
on Sunday, September 20, '98 at the Green Street Grille in Cambridge.
The regular band was augmented by the always-desirable presence of former
Blood Orange virtuoso Jimmy Ryun, one of the premier mandolin
players in rock music today- anywhere!

Monster guitarist Rich Gilbert checks out the set. Rich added his pedal
steel magic to the band's recent recording session.

arm-raising calisthenics.

Brian at the beach, moving in on guitarist Mike Leahy's turf.
