If
you'd like to submit an article or have any interesting Bags stories,
posters or pix please use the link at the bottom of this page to get in
touch. I'll gladly- and gratefully -post them on this page. Here's a message
from fan Anthony Cominsky that I got on 9/30/05, describing a typical
reaction to the Bags: shock and awe!
To
me, the Bags ruled Green Street Station. I was living there (in JP, not
the bar) in the 80's/90's. Never missed a Bags (or Swamp Oaf) show at
Green Street. A sea of Boston rock fans in flannel shirts and raised Budweisers
before anybody knew the word "grunge". Bill Tupper as MC. Aram
Heller hawking vinyl. Kenne Highland immobilized after
his opening set of 10 songs and as many drinks. Jim Janota sneaking one-hits
anywhere and everywhere. Joyce Linehan running around. All the usual suspects
like Peter Prescott and the Voodoo Dolls and Zulus hanging out.
Like
the Titanics, a band tragically passed over by the king-makers in the
record biz.
Live
they really knew how to build momentum in a 75 minute set. They were my
local punk rock grateful dead. Heavy metal, punk, proto- grunge, psychedelic
acid rock and hardcore. Their choice of covers, from Goodbye Yellow Brick
Road to War Pigs...and it all worked. I don't think I ever saw a bad set.
A bargain at $6 bucks. (We'd sneak
our own Heinekens into the club under our coats but order 1 at the bar
for camouflage. Hey, I wasn't making that much money calling registered
voters w/ Joyce Linehan at a Cambridge phonebank.)
I
hope you can put up a shot of their album cover, the Bags. It's the one
w/ Jon Hardy wearing aluminum foil shoes.
I
had a WBCN live radio bootleg that was excellent. Now where did that get
to?
